The Golden Girls reminds us that financial hardship does not disappear with age. Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia each face the realities of rising costs, limited income, unexpected life changes, and the challenges that can come with growing older while trying to maintain independence.

For many older adults in Adams County, this reality feels very familiar. ALICE households are not limited to young families or single parents. They also include seniors living on fixed incomes who are forced to make difficult choices between medications, utilities, groceries, and housing costs.

The Golden Girls show us the importance of friendship, resilience, and leaning on one another during difficult seasons of life. Behind the laughter and late-night conversations around the kitchen table is a reminder that many people quietly struggle to keep up, even after a lifetime of hard work.

In Adams County, 26% of households are currently living as ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are hardworking individuals and families doing their best to stay afloat while facing the pressures of everyday life.

The Golden Girls represent something bigger than a television show. They represent neighbors, grandparents, retirees, and loved ones in our own community who may be carrying burdens we cannot always see.

They are ALICE.
