Class of 1986! Nearly four decades have passed since you graduated as proud Quincy Blue Devils, stepping into a world undergoing significant change. Now, you have the opportunity to come together once again—not just to reminisce about your shared past, but to build a lasting legacy.
Through the Class Circles Challenge, your class can raise $10,000 to establish a permanent endowed fund—your Class Circle—that will support Quincy Public Schools students for generations to come. This fund will provide vital resources for technology access, arts and music education, mental health services, athletics, and college and career readiness—ensuring every Blue Devil has the opportunity to thrive.
Your Class Circle Fund is just beginning, and it starts with you and your classmates. Every donation helps lay a strong foundation. Each gift strengthens the fund and expands its long-term impact—building a more supportive school system where students, educators, and the entire QPS community are empowered to help young people succeed. It’s a meaningful way to give back to the community that helped shape your journey.
Your senior year was marked by unforgettable moments that left a lasting imprint. In January 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster shook the nation—and touched Quincy directly. Beloved QHS physics teacher John Baird was among Illinois’ state finalists for NASA’s Teacher in Space program, selected from over 11,000 applicants. He was the 11th runner-up for the mission that included Christa McAuliffe. Reflecting on the experience, Baird called it “the best thing I ever lost.”
Pop culture in 1986 brought both inspiration and escape. Films like Top Gun, Crocodile Dundee, and Platoon filled theaters, while Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Stand by Me became instant classics. Aliens and Star Trek IV thrilled audiences, while comedies like Back to School brought laughter and fun.
At Quincy High, the Class of 1986 left its mark through leadership, creativity, and community spirit. Whether on the field, on stage, in the classroom, or through service, your class demonstrated resilience and innovation—helping shape the traditions and culture that still define the Blue Devil experience today.
Now, it’s time to channel that same spirit once more. Reach out to your classmates—teammates, performers, student leaders, and lifelong friends—and invite them to be part of this legacy. Every gift, no matter the amount, brings you closer to completing your Class Circle. Progress can be tracked online, and each milestone will be celebrated.
By supporting your Class Circle, you’ll help fund essential programs—providing today’s students with access to technology, arts and music, athletics, mental health resources, and career development opportunities.
Nearly forty years ago, the Class of 1986 helped shape the heart of Quincy High. Today, you can carry that spirit forward—creating a legacy that will uplift future generations of Blue Devils.
