Brown County Animal Rescue (BCAR) started as a dream in 2021.  Passionate women in the Brown County community saw the need for improved animal welfare resources.  After a lot of research and hard work, BCAR became a licensed animal rescue and received non-profit status in 2022.  The first three years have been full of growth - expanding our community-support programs AND rescuing and rehoming over 100 animals.

Current Programs supporting the Brown County community:

  • Trap/Neuter/Release - We work with local businesses and residents to trap, vaccinate and fix stray cats in specific areas of the county
  • Blessing Box Pet Food Pantry - Located at Mt. Sterling Foods, the Blessing Box is stocked on a regular cadence with pet products for community members in need
  • Community Cares Fund - Dedicated funds are budgeted each calendar year to support community members in need of financial assistance to cover vet expenses for their pets
  • Foster/Adoption Services - When a stray or owner surrendered animal comes into our care, we utilize foster homes to provide temporary housing for animals during the adoption proces
  • Community Engagement Events - We host/engage in quarterly community events providing educational information, resources, and sharing our services to attending community members
