The Blind Children’s Foundation of Illinois (BCFI) provides adaptive equipment and educational services for children who are blind or visually impaired who are served by the Illinois School for Visually Impaired (ISVI) in Jacksonville, Illinois. The school is administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of Rehabilitation Services and annually serves over a hundred children with vison loss. It provides preschool and K-12 curriculums.

The BCFI seeks to provide adaptive equipment and/ or experiences beneficial to the children served by ISVI. The Blind Children’s Foundation (BCFI) mission is to provide adaptive devices and services to complement those provided by the school if budgets are limited.

Examples of adaptive equipment include:

  1.  High tech GPS devices that with instruction provide students who have limited mobility with independent travel skills
  2. Adaptive equipment for information transfer involving braille or auditory assisted media
  3. Recreational support for equipment such as bicycles and their maintenance
  4. Campus motivational contests with rewards
  5. Educational assistance devices and services

 The BCFI is a 501©3 registered foundation with the Illinois Attorney general’s office and with the Illinois Secretary of State. We are supported by fundraising and donations from supportive individuals or organizations including Lions Clubs. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
