$1,000 Goal

Big Brothers Big Sisters of McDonough County recruits, screens, and trains adult community members to serve as mentors (“Bigs”) for children ages 6 to 18 (“Littles”). While we will provide mentors for any families who request them, many of our Littles face challenges such as growing up in poverty or in single-parent households. These children need mentors to help them overcome a wide range of common problems, such as low self-esteem, struggles in school, and no clear plan for the future.

The Bigs provide the Littles with consistent positive role models who help them explore their own untapped potential. They expose their Littles to new experiences and activities to broaden their world experience and expand the range of their personal interests. The mentors serve as a safe, non-judgmental space for the Littles to seek adult guidance and perspective. Through all of these interactions, the Bigs help the Littles build their feelings of self-worth and belief in their own abilities.
