Investing in youth. Strengthening communities.

Each day across West Central Illinois, young people are discovering their potential through Illinois 4-H. As part of University of Illinois Extension, 4-H provides hands-on learning experiences that help youth explore interests, build independence, and find a place where they belong. Through clubs, workshops, camps, and community partnerships, 4-H reaches youth of all backgrounds—opening doors to growth and possibility.

Across Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike, and Schuyler counties:

  • 5,595 youth participated in opportunities provided by 4-H and youth education
  • 691 members were actively engaged in 60 local 4-H clubs
  • Youth explored interests through 1,700+ program experiences, from one-day workshops and extended learning
  • 290 volunteers dedicated their time to mentor and support youth

These numbers show the reach of 4-H - but the true impact is found in the confidence, skills, and connections youth gain through these experiences.

Hands-on experiences inspire confidence and connection

Through Illinois 4-H, youth across West Central Illinois are discovering their potential through hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and build self-assurance. From robotics and electricity to creative arts and early youth camps, these programs help young people explore new interests, develop real-world abilities, and feel a sense of belonging. Each experience opens the door for youth to see what’s possible—growing not just knowledge, but independence and connection to their community.

Preparing youth to lead and achieve

4-H helps young people look beyond today and prepare for what comes next. Through leadership experiences, career exploration, and skill-building programs, youth are developing tools that support success in school, the workplace, and their communities.

With support from donors, 4-H creates pathways for youth to grow into leaders—learning how to communicate effectively, make informed decisions, and take initiative. These experiences shape futures, helping young people see themselves as capable contributors ready to make a difference.

Helping youth grow their passions into skills

4-H gives youth the opportunity to explore what excites them and turn those interests into meaningful abilities. Whether in the kitchen or the show ring, hands-on learning experiences help young people build confidence in areas they care about.

Through programs like Cooking 101, youth develop independence by learning to safely prepare meals and follow recipes. At the same time, livestock judging clinics challenge participants to think critically, make decisions, and communicate their reasoning—skills that extend far beyond agriculture.

These experiences are made possible through local support, helping youth discover their strengths and grow into capable, confident individuals.

Building healthy habits and life skills for the future

4-H helps young people develop essential life skills that support their health, safety, and independence. Through programs focused on mindfulness and safe caregiving, youth learn to manage stress, make responsible decisions, and care for others.

Experiences like Mindful Me introduce younger youth to emotional awareness and healthy habits, while Babysitting Bootcamp prepares older youth with practical skills such as first aid, child engagement, and safety techniques. With donor support, 4-H is equipping youth with tools they can use every day—helping them grow into responsible, capable individuals prepared for life.

Expanding opportunities through strong partnerships

4-H works alongside schools, organizations, and community partners to create experiences youth could not access alone. By combining resources and expertise, these partnerships expand what is possible for young people across the region.

Through collaborations with groups like FFA and local educators, youth participate in career development events, hands-on competitions, and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals. These experiences encourage critical thinking, leadership, and exploration of future pathways.

With continued donor support, 4-H can strengthen these partnerships—ensuring more youth have access to impactful learning experiences that prepare them for what comes next.
